The piece is projected as large as possible onto the gallery wall, accompanied by a related (but not synched) audio composition entitled "Worksounds." The exhibition theme explores the rhythms of yarn spinning, with Ross performing on a mechanical exercise bike converted into a spinning apparatus (with the generous engineering assistance of by Curt Baxter). The video component features images of raw cotton, spun thread, and implements utilized by Ross in a manual spinning method involving a handheld spindle turned inside a teacup. "Worksounds" was created by sampling and tonebending the sonic elements of Ross's teacup method. In concept, I have sought to create a visual rhythm of alternating frenetic stop-motion images and gliding, calm interludes featuring rotating teacups recorded in real-time.
